The Florida Business Network for a Clean Energy Economy hosted a Clean Energy Congress June 28-29 in the House Chamber of Florida's Capitol building.  The task of the 120 delegates and observers in attendance was to come up with several proposals to serve as possible solutions to Florida's energy challenges.  The delegates to the Congress represent a broad array of interests, including renewable energy producers, academics and policy leaders, who came together to create a vision for a sustainable energy future for the state.  Florida Energy & Climate Commissioner Kathy Baughman McLeod, a delegate to the Clean Energy Congress, spoke during the opening day of the session.  In her remarks, Commissioner Baughman McLeod emphasized the need for investment in clean technologies and a renewable portfolio standard to help raise the bar and put Florida on the map as a leader in energy innovations.  These investments will also grow Florida's economy and create jobs by establishing a market for clean energy.  On the second day of the meeting, the delegates adopted significant proposals to bring to the Legislature and signed a Declaration of Energy Independence.
