The District School Board of Pasco County retains Bryant Miller Olive as its bond counsel, extending the relationship past 15-year mark

LAND O’ LAKES, FL (July 14, 2016) The District School Board of Pasco County has voted to retain Bryant Miller Olive P.A. (BMO) as its bond counsel – a position the law firm has held since 2002. The June 21 decision came after a rigorous competitive bidding process in which an independent evaluation committee ranked BMO first out of four firms that submitted proposals.

As bond counsel to the Pasco County School Board, BMO reviews potential financing programs to ensure they are compliant with various laws and regulations; provides advice regarding procedures required for approvals and filings relative to the issuance of bonds; and prepares the bond documents for the financing. BMO also meets with School Board staff and its financial advisor, as needed.

“Bryant Miller Olive has served as the District’s bond counsel for over 10 years and were recently awarded a five-year contract to continue as the District’s Bond Counsel due to their experience and the excellent services they provide our District,” said Olga Swanson, Chief Finance Officer for the District School Board of Pasco County.

Since January 2014, Bryant Miller Olive has assisted the School Board in bond transactions for the construction and renovation of approximately 45 schools, technology upgrades and financing of school buses and computers. Four of the transactions refinanced existing debt and lowered the interest rate to save the School District almost $7 million in interest on a present value basis.

Bryant Miller Olive is proud to have attorney Nikki Nate, a product of the Pasco County school system and a graduate of River Ridge High School in New Pt. Richey, Florida, serve on its Bond Counsel team.

In addition to providing Bond Counsel services, BMO has assisted the District with various projects and programs throughout its longstanding relationship. Most recently, BMO presented at the District’s Leadership Program – a special, in-depth training for emerging leaders within the District. BMO’s presentation focused on the legal aspects of borrowing.
