Shavon L. Jones is an attorney in the Miami office where she practices in the Real Estate and Hospitality Group, the Public Private Partnership Group, and the Business and Corporate Group. Ms. Jones is the co-author of the forthcoming “How Business Structure Impacts Your Business Operations, Your Tax Liability and Your Heirs.” She is a member of the National Association of Black Hotel Owners Operators and Developers (NABHOOD) and has lectured on such topics as “Public Private Partnerships: How to Get into the Game” and “Structuring Your Hotel Ownership Group.” Ms. Jones also has extensive tax experience having worked in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Washington National Tax Services practice where she managed large Internal Revenue audits and advised institutional investors regarding the tax consequences of their domestic and international real estate holdings. Ms. Jones is the author of “U.S. Taxation of Inbound International Tax Service” which was published in the Journal of International Taxation in July 2002. She has been a panelist discussing such topics as “Nuances of the Unrelated Business Income Tax” and “Careers in Taxation: A Comparison of Law Firm, Accounting Firm, In-house, and Government Practice.” In addition, Ms. Jones held an in-house position at a Fortune 500 company advising on numerous domestic and international mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures, including the acquisition of a Mexican macquiladora, the acquisition of numerous foreign service corporations, and an international joint venture in the banking industry. Ms. Jones’ corporate lectures include “Ethical Standards for SEC Disclosures and IRS Tax Return Positions.” In 2004, Ms. Jones won the South Florida Business Journal’s Up & Comer’s Award in the Legal Category. Ms. Jones served on the adjunct faculty at Johnson & Wales University and participated in the Black Executive Exchange Program (BEEP). She recently delivered the Keynote Address at the Charlie, Sr. and Maggie T. Robinson Scholarship Fund 2007 Longevity Awards banquet in Louisiana. Ms. Jones holds a B.S. in Accounting from Southern University and A&M College (magna cum laude) and a J.D. and an LL.M (with distinction) from Temple University Beasley School of Law. She is admitted to practice law in Florida and Pennsylvania.
